Spring
When the groundwater flows out at the ground surface, it is called the spring. The springs are formed at where water table intersects ground surface.
Types of Springs
There are the following types of spring.
i. Water Table SpringThe water table springs are found in depression where the ground level is below the water table.
ii. Contact SpringWhere an impervious bed underlies a permeable bed, the groundwater flows out along the contact if the same is exposed by erosion.
iii. Karst SpringErosion may expose a cavernous rock, such as limestone containing groundwater. The spring formed in this way is called karst spring.
iv. Fault SpringThe flow of groundwater is checked along the fault planes and it may emerge out at the ground surface forming a fault spring.
